Importing bitmapped images
Although Expression Design offers a number of ways to draw your own pictures, you can also import bitmapped images (such as photographs taken with a digital camera or images created in a 3D graphics application) into your documents. There are several ways to import a bitmapped image into Expression Design.
- Paste If you select a bitmapped image in another application (such as Internet Explorer), you can copy it to the Clipboard and then click Paste on the Edit menu to place the pixels into Expression Design. For more information, see Copy and paste objects.
- Open You can click Open on the File menu to open a bitmapped image directly from disk in any supported format (such as TIFF, JPEG, PSD, GIF, and so on). When you open a bitmapped image, it appears as the sole object on a layer in the document.
- Import You can place a bitmapped image from disk onto your Expression Design document by clicking Import on the File menu (or press CTRL+I). When you select a file from disk and click OK, Expression Design places the image onto the current layer. Therefore, it's useful first to select a layer in your document before you click Import. Note that when you insert a bitmapped image, a link is not maintained between the original image and the Expression Design document, so any changes to the original bitmapped image on disk will not affect your image in Expression Design.
- Drag You can also drag an image file from Windows Explorer or another application (such as Internet Explorer) into the application window. If a document is open in Expression Design, the image is placed on the current layer.
